About Sufi Tur
It has been observed that when the spiritual elements that constitute the essence of the Turkish people achieve harmony with the material and physical elements of existence, the synthesis of science, culture, and art gains momentum.
Within the unity of Asia and Anatolia, and drawing particularly on the culture and civilization of Khorasan, Turkish Sufism—which took root in the hearts of the Anatolian people and radiated out to the world—includes spiritual figures such as Mevlâna, Hacı Bektaş-ı Velî, Hacı Bayram-ı Velî, Üftade, Emir Sultan, Yunus Emre, Niyazi Misri, Karacaahmet Sultan, Güneş Hanım, Karyağdı Sultan, Kadıncık Ana, and others—and these ways of life have been presented to humanity.
Drawing inspiration from the sacred hadith that “The Believers will not die, but will merely change states,” we do this to commemorate these individuals—who have attained the secret of the noble hadith “Die before you die”—in their eternal resting places, to express our respectful acceptance of the spiritual sentiments they attained, and to sincerely identify with their state of being. In this way, we believe that our souls will be disciplined in grasping the truth that life continues even after death, and that we will thus have visited the truth that resides within us and is manifested in them.
As the great writer and Sufi Feriduddin Attar states in his work *Tezkiret-ül evliya*, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said in a hadith, “Mercy rains down upon the place where the friends of Allah are remembered.” We express our desire in this way—both to commemorate them and to breathe in the meaning of tawhid (the Oneness of God) manifested in them, and through our devotion (our orientation), to convey to the realm of manifestation the bounties and graces of God that are revealed in them.
A verse states, “Allah’s grace comes to the world through the muhsin (those who give selflessly).” Undoubtedly—according to our faith—the qualities manifested in Allah’s righteous servants are generosity, mercy, love, sharing, and tolerance.
To make time for all of this, as has been our tradition since the 1990s, we undertake this spiritual journey every December.
During these trips, spiritual values are experienced and bonds of friendship are formed through concerts, conferences, discussions, and visits with local and international participants.
Another aspect of the journey is the concept of travel. The hadith, “Travel, and you will find health,” serves as a clear guide in this regard.
The way to transform spiritual matters from theory into practice is to strive to put them into action. Being in the presence of the great Sufis at their spiritual stations strengthens sincere feelings.
