“SACRED TEACHINGS OF TURKISTAN” RETREAT
INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONTENT:
Elements such as understanding, faith, love, respect, struggle and compassion show unity and solidarity in the performance of ancient Turkish music. In this practice, music, rather than spending time and entertainment, created an atmosphere of harmony, balance and respect within the society and became a means of turning towards the Creator in a spiritual sense. Dr. Rahmi Oruç Güvenç
In Turks, music and movement therapy has found a place as a treatment opportunity in modern medicine as well as the reality of history. The figures engraved on the rocks of Gobustan in Azerbaijan four thousand years ago tell us about a very deep-rooted tradition.
The tradition of treatment with pentatonic (five-tone) music, known as the oldest form of performance, and Turkish makam music of Khorasan origin, which has been developing since a thousand years ago, has taken place in the works of scientists and artists. Musical therapy has been used with this material in Seljuk and Ottoman healing centers since nine hundred years ago.
– CENTRAL ASIAN MUSIC
In Central Asian Turkish culture, there are thousands of instruments and countless songs, songs and dances that convey the feelings and thoughts of the culture that produced these instruments. In Tümata seminars, compilations based on various themes from this knowledge are presented accompanied by authentic Turkish instruments.
– ACTIVE MUSIC THERAPY TRADITION
In active sessions, participants actively participate in dances, songs and the music performed.
– BAKSI DANCE – The oldest known healing dance of the Turks.
In ancient times, healers called kam and baksi used music and movement in treatment. This dance, known today as baksı dance or karacorga and practiced by kams and baksıs (Central Asian Turkish-Islamic shamans), is perhaps the oldest living example of music and movement therapy. In the seminar, information about the baksi dance is given, its execution is explained with examples and it is practiced with the participants.
– ARCHETYPICAL MOVEMENTS (HEALTH SERIES)
Dr. Rahmi Oruç Güvenç and Teo. Psk. It is a therapy session developed by Gerhard Kadir Tuçek (director of the Austrian eastern music therapy school) and applied in many hospitals and treatment centers in Europe.
The main idea in this application is; It is to re-stimulate forgotten emotions and produce new emotions to change the person’s current state and ensure adaptation to healthy living conditions.
For this purpose, the session can be described as the activity of achieving ongoing harmony and balance with appropriate movements, without distortion in nature; It is carried out in conjunction with the pentatonic – semi-pentatonic and authentically living Turkish music repertoire and the performance of natural, authentic instruments.
– PENTATONIC MUSIC EXAMPLES AND RECEPTIVE PRACTICES
Pentatonic music, which has a history of thousands of years, is called “the mark of the Turks on music” by Ahmet Adnan Saygun. It is stated that this music increases alpha and theta waves in the brain, facilitates trance, and gives self-confidence and determination.
The pentatonic type of music is very important because it is a foundation in music therapy. This study, in which participants lie down and rest, is a type of receptive (passive) therapy.
– RECEPTIVE PASSIVE MUSIC THERAPY TRADITION
– IMAGE MUSIC THERAPY
It is a work performed with improvisation-based music accompaniment, which has been observed many times over the last twenty years to facilitate the perception of certain images. In this way, it is aimed to release the negative structures settled in the mind. A melody that has a connection with very old practices is presented again, from the same source, with its essence intact. This study, in which participants lie down and rest, is a type of receptive (passive) therapy.
– RECEPTIVE MUSIC THERAPY SESSION WITH MAKAM MUSIC
Maqam music became stronger in Khorasan culture 1000 years ago. The use of this music in treatment was a very important branch of medicine at that time, and artists and scientists such as Ibn-i Sina, Farabi, Ebubekir Razi, Safüyiddin Urmevi determined the relationship and relationship of the modes with organs, time, illnesses, four elements, four conditions and zodiac signs. and studied on them. About forty of these maqams have entered the literature.
The great Turkish Scholar Farabi (870-950) classifies the effects of maqams on the soul as follows:
• Rast maqam: It gives pleasure (joy, peace) to people.
• Rehavi maqam: It gives people the idea of eternity.
• Küçek makam: It gives sensitivity to people.
• Neva makam: It gives pleasure and relief to people.
• Uşşak maqam: It makes people laugh ‘dilhek’.
In the seminars, information on the subject is given and a receptive music therapy session is held in a selected maqam, as done in healing centers.
– SUFI MUSIC AND SEMA
Sema is a means of getting closer to God or a form of worship that emerges as a result of getting closer to God and is expressed through movement and dance.
The sema developed in Islamic Sufism has a philosophical depth and explanations in this way. It is not just a turn, it is a direction towards the heart. God Almighty said, “I cannot fit into the worlds, but I can fit into the heart of my faithful servant.” Since that heart can be a mirror to that manifestation, the return is in the direction of the heart. Moreover, in the sema, the outer and inner and all directions come together. Hz. Mevlana says, “The sema finds its way from beyond the six directions.” .
In the seminars, information about sema is given, the technique is explained and applied with the participants. Some of the hundreds of people who have learned Sema in the last few years have started this practice by spinning for ten to fifteen minutes, and have continued this practice to the point of spinning for one, two, three, and even six to seven hours.
