If, in the heart you see in his eyes, you can see the heart you see in your own eyes, say to him, ‘Are you me?'”

This statement was perceived during a deep mystical state of concentration between 1970 and 1976. Love—which is regarded as the essential quality required to transform the distant into the near within the spiritual path—is of great interest to the human world.

A person who sets out on a journey from multiplicity toward unity must always keep alive the determination to learn to adapt from the transient to the unchanging. This feeling is a sense of longing. Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him), driven by this feeling, never severed his bond with Prophet Joseph (peace be upon him) nor lost hope (The Holy Quran, 12:84).

Hazrat Mevlânâ began the *Mesnevi* by describing the ney and, through symbols, drew a parallel between the reed’s longing for the soil—its homeland—and the human being’s yearning for the realm of unity and infinity—his true homeland—as he journeys from the realm of unity to the realm of multiplicity.

The fact that love unites the lover and the beloved makes it necessary to strive to understand what love truly is. Hazrat Mevlânâ guides us with the statement: “Love is a love that cannot be counted or measured.” “They love Allah, and Allah loves them. Holy Quran 5:54.” Love is a divine mercy spread throughout the universe, embodying the meaning of the beautiful name of Allah, al-Vedud. Hazrat Mevlânâ describes the relationship between love and knowledge with the words, “This love, too, is the result of knowledge; how could incomplete knowledge give rise to love?” thereby demonstrating the quality of knowledge. Reason—a vital faculty bestowed upon humanity as a means to attain true knowledge—is a phenomenon that must be thoroughly understood. “The essence of reason is to foresee the outcome. A mind that fails to see the outcome is the ego; a mind overcome by the ego has become the ego itself. “If a person falls under the influence of Saturn, they become like Saturn.” — Hz. Mevlânâ, Mesnevi, Volume II. When reason surrenders the crucible of life to Love, the heart, filled with love, is adorned with its qualities. Through the knowledge of Love and the love of knowledge, “Today We have removed the veil that stood between you and Us. Holy Qur’an, 50:22” and “The earth has been illuminated by the light of your Lord.
